A fan-belt that sings

these should have at least half an inch of play & shouldn’t be frayed, cracked, or glazed on the underside. You don’t want to chance blowing your engine by driving with a broken fan belt!

Tires that squeal for mercy on curves

first check your speed… then check your tire pressure, tire tread and alignment (see our Tires section).

Wheels that whine or hum a tone on curves

your wheel bearing may be wearing.

Rhythmical ticking while your engine idles

shut off the engine, wait ten minutes and then check the oil level. If the oil level is not low, and your car has valves, have Hilltop check your valve adjustment. Faulty valves can seriously affect your car’s performance and fuel consumption.

Mild engine knocking or pinging

You could be using the wrong octane rating when you gas your vehicle. Check your owner’s manual to see if your vehicle can use low-octane or needs premium gas.

Loud engine knocking

Pull to the side of the road immediately! Best case scenario is a loose rocker arm or carbon buildup inside your engine. Worst case is a loose bearing or a faulty piston which can destroy your engine!! Don’t chance it – call Hilltop!

Engine keeps running after you’ve turned it off

You may be using a fuel too high an octane rating, or you may have picked up a tank of inferior gas, or your idle speed may be set too high.

Rumbling noises coming from towards the rear of your vehicle

Could be defective exhaust pipe, muffler, catalytic converter, universal joint, etc. Have Hilltop check!
